Insurance Tips
Young male motorists rate themselves as the best drivers on the roads. When it comes to how we rate our own driving, it seems that the majority of us think that we are reasonably good behind the wheel.Figures from a recent car insurance survey of 15,000 motorists revealed that 69 per cent rated their driving as above average, with just 0.8 per cent admitting their driving was below par.
A spokesperson for the company that carried out the survey said, “While there are many excellent drivers out there, the findings of our survey do suggest that most of us are more than a little biased when it comes to our own driving. None of us are perfect and most of us have unwittingly picked up bad and sometimes even dangerous habits that we are not aware of.”Young male drivers are the group who believe they are the best drivers on the roads, something that car insurance premiums do not reflect.
Males aged between 17 and 24 years old are the most confident about their driving, with 86.6 per cent of this age group saying they were above average motorists. Of this figure, 44.9 per cent believed they were well above average. In comparison, just 18.2 per cent of female drivers aged between 17 and 24 years old believed the same. However, young male drivers are involved in more road traffic accidents than any other group of motorists, which leaves us with the conclusion that this attitude amongst the majority of men in their teens and early 20’s is impinging on their driving ability and affecting their concentration.
